Ho ho ho! Nuala meets Father Christmas for the first time and doesn't freak out!! (However, I fear an earlier encounter that same day with "Batman on stilts" may have scarred her for life!)
With just a team dinner and a half day of work to go until I finally get to embrace the festive season, I am trying furiously to get things finished before I head off so I can try to forget about work for a few days. I have started praying that people will be a bit more reasonable and take the "can it wait until Janaury" bait as I am getting to the canny be arsed stage with the year 2006. They may even forget about their requests come the New Year! So, I am plugged into my iPod listening to The Pogues to block out the distractions of the office and its chatter around me.
Some good things about Christmas this year
- I have a very tall (real) tree with dozens of fairy lights on it.
- Nuala has learned lots of new songs, and I love how cheesy and exciting Christmas is again.
- I am in Hong Kong, and it isn't even cold yet!
- I get to listen to Fairytale of New York, and remember Christmases past
- The Champagne quota has gone up- wha-hey!
- Get to shop for and ship lots of nice pressies back home
- Five glorious days in Phuket to look forward to
And not so good
- I have not been to one decent party this festive season/year
- I have not danced and made an arse of myself (yet!)
- I had one rotten hangover that was not a result of either of the above
- I will miss family again this year, crap as Christmas day can be, I miss that
- Missing another Christmas eve in a pub in Southampton (it's been 10 years...)
